Phoenix CDS Leads Richland Community Development Project

The Phoenix Community Development Services has been awarded a grant from Greater Peoria LISC to lead community revitalization efforts in the Richland neighborhood in East Peoria.  This project will provide funds for home improvement such as roof, siding, and window replacement and repair; provide guidance and assistance to existing neighborhood leadership to build capacity; and plan and implement cleanup and beautification projects – with the overall goal of  improving the quality of life for the residents.

The project kicked off on Saturday, April 8 when residents of the neighborhood partnered with a number of community and municipal organizations for a neighborhood-wide beautification and improvement day.  Improvement projects included yard work and lawn care for those residents who require assistance, preparation of flower planters, and general cleanup.

The Junior League of Peoria selected the effort as one of its “Done In A Day” projects and provided teams of volunteers throughout the day.  Children from the Tazewell Area Community Project (TCAP) afterschool program operated by the Center for Youth and Family Solutions also participated.  Additional collaborative partners involved in the improvement day were:  Greater Peoria LISC, the City of East Peoria, the East Peoria Chamber of Commerce, and the Fondulac Park District.
